Nature Tour to Cretan Villages
Description
If you are looking for an excursion where you will spend some time in nature, among local Cretans, you should choose this one!
We enter the beautiful valley of Amari – an area that is totally unaffected by mass tourism. Passing the valley, we make some photo stops where you get the most beautiful view over olive groves and orchards, the artificial lake of Potamous, as well as a stunning view to the highest peak of Crete, Psiloriti.
A refreshing stop is held in Apostoli before we continue through small villages on our way to Ano Meros. Above the village there is the old uninhabited monastery of Kaloidena with a restored Byzantine church. The area is in a beautiful setting with tall plane trees, springs and lush vegetation. From Kaloidena we walk to Ano Meros – a 2 km walk (1/2 hour) where we will be met by the local housewife association who has prepared a tasty lunch consisting of delicious and exclusively local products. The lunch is included in your ticket.
After spending some hours in Ano Meros we return to Rethymno, driving over Gerakari. Our last stop is in Spili where you may enjoy a coffee beside the Venetian Lion Spring or make some local shopping.
